Abstract Consider observing two different waves with the same frequency and wavelength. When these are coupled, amplitude alternates between periodically, a phenomenon called coherent beating oscillation. Such phenomena can be seen in familiar coupled pendulums and, on cosmic scale, neutrino oscillations: oscillation types of neutrinos. In solids, other hand, there various wave excitations responsible for their thermal electromagnetic properties. Here we report observation excitation species solid: phonons magnons. By using time-resolved magneto-optical microscopy, magnons generated Lu 2 Bi 1 Fe 3.4 Ga 1.6 O 12 gradually disappear by transforming to phonons, after while, they return The period as function field is consistent prediction magnon-phonon beating. experimental results pave way control systems solids.
